FAQs ON ATTACHMENT METHODS FOR HAIR REPLACEMENT SYSTEMS
Clients of hair4all have submitted the following FAQs on attachment techniques for hair systems:
- Which is better, tape or adhesive for attaching hair systems?
They both work extremely well and it really depends on the client’s choice. Things to consider are how oily your scalp is and of course your lifestyle. hair4all’s tapes and adhesive are medical grade and perform excellently whether the client wants a prolonged hold of 2-4 weeks or a hold of 5-7 days which would be a tape attachment.
Tape attachments are very easy to perform and really don’t take much getting used to, generally within a week you will be as qualified as a retail stylist.
Adhesives give a longer hold and if you have pretty active life then this attachment would be best. There really isn’t much difference from the tape attachment apart from the obvious, it has a stronger hold so attaching the hair system has to be completed correctly, with tender loving care and direction.
- Which side of the tape is which?
Both sides are double sided tape and are tacky. The split side is where you peel the outer tape and apply to the base of the hair system. The long side is peeled away when you are ready to adhere to the skin. This generally is the written rule with all tapes that are used with hair systems.
- Should I leave gaps between each length of tape?
Yes, this is advised for clients who have oily scalps and need extra breathing of the scalp. This does help with shampooing and washing away the cream from under the base. If you have tape all around the perimeter base for that extra security, then when shampooing your hair spend that little extra time to rinse and make sure all the cream has been released from the hair system.
- What is the “Alcohol slide”?
This is a hair term or tip for an attachment using tapes as the hold. With the tape ready to attach, simply spray a small amount of alcohol onto the tape and position the hair system. The alcohol will evaporate giving you a few seconds to put your hair system in the correct place for you. Once the alcohol has evaporated the tape will return to being tacky and hold your hair system securely.
This is a term used which is similar to the alcohol slide and is used for tape attachments. Position the hair system with the backing paper still on the tapes. Hold the hair system with the backing paper still on the tapes. Hold the hair system in place and peel one or two tapes and roll it down. Continue from front to back or if you prefer from back to front.
- How long can you wear a hair system?
This is an individual preference. We have clients that wear their hair systems fully bonded for 4-5 weeks. Clients that choose to have a tape attachment wear their hair systems daily, and up to 7 days. If you have oily skin or you sweat a lot, 2-5 days would be ideal. If you are dry and cool, much longer. hair4all recommends regular removal and most importantly extensive clean up SEE OUR CLEAN-UP &REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS. Keeping your hair system clean and your scalp cleansed is very important to hygiene.
- Where can I learn more about attachment techniques?
On most pages we have descriptions. You can learn more using our Hair Care page.
- Where do I position my hairline with the hair system?
This is very important. As a rule 3-4 fingers above your eyebrows. Hair systems have improved so much over the last few years that natural looking hairlines are easily achieved. The natural looking hairline should begin where your natural hairline began. You should never place the front of the hair system on your frown line, that is far too low and hair doesn't grow naturally from there. Look in a mirror and feel your head. Visually your fingers should tell if they’re on your forehead or at the front of your scalp. To summarise, the hairline is 3-4 fingers from your eyebrow and NOT on your frown lines.
