COLOURING HUMAN HAIR IN HAIR REPLACEMENT SYSTEMS

Before we start the instructions let hair4all give you some tips to maintain your hair system's hair colour longevity.

All hair oxidises, and hair systems are no different. Flourescent lights, sun rays, chlorine in swimming pools are three things that accelerate lightening of your system's hair. Using hair4all’s recommended leave in conditioner regularly (which has a sunscreen formulated in it) will slow down the oxidation.

For example, if you have a pool or simply swim a lot, spray your hair before you take a dive and after you have finished. This also helps with the comb through when you style your hair.

If you work outside and are exposed to sun rays, carry a leave in conditioner with you at all times and use it frequently to condition the hair shaft, this will give your hair some protection.

Again, the same when you are underneath flourescent lights, in offices etc.

Shampoos and Conditioners - Our recommended brands are the ones you should use, simply because they are formulated for the type of human hair that is put into your hair system. When we say type, this means the hair implanted in the hair system has been treated to enable the hair to move, just like natural growing hair.

This has been mentioned before but it’s worth mentioning again. Some shampoos and conditioners (expensive or not) can make your hair silky with shine for a few washes, then the detergent in the particular formula will strip the hair shaft and probably affect the knots on the base too. Take our advice and trust hair4all’s ‘total product line’ as they will provide the right nutrients for the hair without causing damage to the hair system in any way. The colour will last longer and so will the hair.

Also our Affiliated Stylists will take care of your colour needs if need be.

PLEASE NOTE: One tube of permanent colour and a bottle of 20 volume cream developer found at any ‘hair supply’ store will last and colour your hair system (if needed) for the full longevity. This will cost approximately £20 (or $30). THIS IS NOT EXPENSIVE! These products will ‘easily’ perform three colour corrections with plenty of 20 volume developer to spare. We like to think that our hair systems, if properly looked after will maintain the colour for the period of their life span.

Please make sure you read the FAQ’s about colour correction help and maintenance - it is a must!

Here’s how to restore the original colour to your hair system.

As part of hair4all’s continual commitment to you the hair wearer, we will provide a source of up-to-date, honest, factual, helpful and money saving information. We will share and teach you a human hair colouring procedure that you can use at home to bring your hair system back to its original colour.

The procedure which is available for you is exactly the same that is used throughout the hair industry. We will always offer this service in-house (Affiliated Stylists), but if you prefer to do it yourself we want to ‘give’ and ‘guide’ you to that option.

Instructions:

Firstly, always use a professional brand such as Clairol, L’Oreal, Wella or Revlon and use the permanent type of hair colouring, one that is ‘mixed’ with a 20 volume developer. We recommend that you always use a permanent colour that is 1 to 2 shades lighter than the desired colour. The reason you want to use a lighter shade is because the hair in your hair system is more porous than growing hair. This porous condition tends to grab the colour more readily than naturally growing hair.

Drabber or red out, can be purchased in the same way. This is a formula that when mixed with the permanent colour and 20 volume cream developer eliminates the red tones from the hair. If your hair carries an ash tone then purchasing the drabber tube will benefit your desired colour correction.

Colour Formulations:

Black Hair

  • Mix ¾ oz of dark ash brown permanent colour
  • Mix ¾ oz of dark drabber (red out)
  • 1 oz of 20 volume cream developer
  • 4 oz of warm water

Dark Brown Hair

  • Mix ¾ oz of medium ash brown to light ash brown permanent colour
  • Mix ¾ oz of light drabber (red out)
  • 1 oz of 20 volume cream developer
  • 4 oz of warm water

Medium Brown Hair

  • Mix ¾ oz of light ash brown to dark ash blond permanent colour
  • Mix ¾ oz of light drabber (red out)
  • 1 oz of 20 volume cream developer
  • 4 oz of warm water

Light Brown Hair

  • Mix ¾ oz of dark ash blond permanent colour
  • Mix ¾ oz of dark drabber (red out)
  • 1 oz of 20 volume cream developer
  • 4 oz of warm water

Dark Blond Hair

  • Mix ¾ oz of light ash blond permanent colour
  • Mix ¾ oz of light drabber (red out)
  • 1 oz of 20 volume cream developer
  • 4 oz of warm water

Medium Blond to very Light Blond

  • Mix ¾ oz of extra/super light ash blond permanent colour
  • Mix ¾ oz of light drabber (red out)
  • 1 oz of 20 volume cream developer
  • 4 oz of warm water

Mixing the described products:

  • Mix all the ingredients in a plastic bowl or glass bowl with a colour brush (bowl and brush are £4 at any ‘hair supply’). Disposable gloves must be worn.
  • Drabber is a colour mix which reduces the red tones, also known as ‘red out’.
  • 20 volume cream developer.
  • Be careful with the colour. This procedure, if completed correctly will be more harmful to the clothes you are wearing than the hair it is applied to, so WATCH your clothes!

Applying the mixture:

Always colour your hair system in a well lit room or even better, where there is plenty of natural light. This is for the purpose of ‘colour checking your hair system during application’.

Skin Base Systems:

  • Use of a mannequin is an ‘absolute’ when colouring your hair system.
  • The skin base material is porous so it is essential that you pin your skin system to a mannequin and apply the hair colour in sections from front to crown.
  • Use a pen or clip to section the hair away applying the hair colour to the hair and not to the base, do this consistently through the whole hair system.
  • After 1 to 3 minutes, do a colour check by taking a section of the hair between your finger and thumb (remember your gloves) and squeeze the moisture. Now examine the compressed area to see if the colour is what you want. Keep in mind the hair will be a lighter shade when dry.
  • We strongly advise that the whole hair system to be colored all at once. The hair colour becomes stronger the longer it oxidises.

Lace & Poly Base Systems:

  • This can be applied more liberally than with a skin base system.
  • Nevertheless, pin your hair system to a mannequin and apply the hair colour in sections using your brush evenly throughout the hair system.
  • After 1 to 3 minutes, do a colour check by taking a section of the hair between your fingers and thumb and squeeze out the moisture.
  • Now examine the compressed area to see if the colour is what you want. Keep in mind the hair will be a lighter shade when dry.
  • We strongly advise that the whole hair system be coloured all at once. The hair colour becomes stronger the longer it oxidises.

Keep checking the colour level by squeezing out the moisture, in sunlight if possible.

When the desired colour level has been reached, rinse thoroughly with warm running water and shampoo, you will notice the hair colour being removed by the colour of the water returning to clear. hair4all’s recommended shampoo is formulated with a non-stripping agent for use on chemically treated, growing, and non-growing hair (hair systems).

When your hair system is shampooed and rinsed, pat dry with a towel or roll the hair system in a towel and press for a few moments. Spray a reasonable amount of hair4all’s recommended Leave In Conditioner and gently brush through the hair system from back to front (remember you are always protecting the delicate front hairline).

If you use the hair4all recommended conditioner, soak the hair system in a bowl of warm water with a palm full of conditioner applied. Leave for 5 minutes and then rinse thoroughly, again in running warm water.

Now you are ready to brush the hair system into your desired style.

Allow the hair system to air dry, when possible.

The purpose of using the Drabber (or red out) in the formula is to cut out any red tones and warmth.

Using these given formulations and quality colouring products, you will restore the original colour and depth of your hair system.
