Open cellophane (cling film) to shoulder width, and line the edge at the back into the healthy hair approximately 3 inches where there is no hair loss.
Cut the cellophane and place on top of the head.
Notice the back is positioned into the healthy hair.
Place a finger on top of the cellophane in the middle of the forehead.
Start twisting the middle ends which have been gathered behind the ears, this will pull the back and front tight to the head.
Keep twisting until the handles created are tight. |
I have turned Sukesh’s head sideways to show how the cellophane has contoured to the side of the head into the healthy hair.
Sukesh is now holding the handles behind both ears, with a small amount of pressure to keep in place. You can see that I have one hand held flat at the front and back of the head over the cellophane.
Sliding down (opposite directions) with each hand I stretch the creases out of the cellophane on the top of the head.
Again, doing the same, at this point you will have a little slack and will have to twist the handles again. Cellophane is fairly strong so you can add pressure to smooth the surface. |
Stretching again with each hand flat across the cellophane on either side of the head above the ears. |
I am now pointing at the area where the scotch tape will be attached, at least 3 inches into the healthy hair.
This will able you to create a contoured template of the head.
Applying the scotch tape... |
The first attachment is positioned straight down the middle of the head as shown. |
The second attachment is placed and is slightly overlapping the first. Follow this rule attaching and moving down either side or one side of the head (whichever is easiest for you). |
Make sure the length of scotch tapes are placed on top of the cellophane in the healthy hair at the back, and finishes just above the eyebrows. |
I try to place the scotch tape at the front just in front of the cellophane and onto the flesh of the scalp, this helps hold your position and will be useful for you while attaching the tapes during the whole procedure. |
Attaching the scotch tape side by side will shape the contour of the forming template as you apply around the different angles of the scalp. |
Following the same angles you can see that I am now attaching into the healthy hair. |
Now I change angles and start applying the scotch tape from ear to ear starting in the middle on the top of the head. |
Making sure the length of tape used is placed and finishes just above the ears on top of the cellophane. |
You can clearly see the template developing and Sukesh’s unique scalp contour for the balding area is being created. |
Following the previous scotch tape attachment, I am positioning the next length, moving towards Sukesh’s forehead, just above the eyebrows. |
From the middle to the back, attach the tape exactly the same, slightly overlapping the last, finishing into the healthy hair. |
’IMPORTANT’ as a bench mark, 4 fingers above the eyebrows is where I will create a hairline for Sukesh.
NEVER as low as your frown lines!
I put a horizontal line to mark the correct spot.
From his nose or in the middle of the space between each eyebrow, I visualize the area I want to mark. |
I mark a line exactly in the center above the horizontal line towards the crown. |
I then create a hairline on one side making sure the marker meets the healthy hair an inch into the area (see below for why). I follow that principal around the head to the back.
I have now marked half of the template. The beauty of the cellophane and transparent scotch tape is you can see the healthy hair through it. This will give you the correct markings. |
Remove the contoured template. |
Cut all the loose ends away from the template an inch from the marking (be careful of the other side which isn’t marked). |
You can see that half the template has been drawn out with the marker pen. |
Now you are ready to fold the template into a perfect half. |
Template folded in half. |
Cut with the scissors following the marked line. |
Continue to do this until all the excess tape has been removed. |
Now place the template back into position and check to see if it is equal each side and long enough at the back.
The arrows are for the hair direction, this type going straight forward means freestyle. If you would like a definite part choose which side and draw a definite line in the area that you would like. Freestyle gives you flexibility.
I am now marking the crown area as you will be able to see the correct position of the crown through the transparent cellophane and tape.
A ¼ inch circle will be fine. |
Hey presto!
A perfect template... Now that wasn’t too difficult was it?
Just saved you a lot of money too! |
A template that has been cut to size and marked with:
B for 'Back of Head', F for 'Front of Head', a quarter inch circle for position of crown, and a name to reference the template with.
If you want a freestyle which means adaptable to any style then draw forward arrows on your template.
If you want a definite part then draw a line along the side on which you would like the parting, or along the middle if you want a centre parting. |
