Cutting and styling the hair system is almost exactly like cutting and styling the natural head of hair. There are only a couple of important differences:

The main thing that you MUST do is to keep the hair extremely long where it hangs down the sides and back of the head. Actually, you should not shorten the overall length of the hair that hangs at the sides and back at all.

Start an inch away from the base material of the hair system, and thin away about 10% of the hair using thinning shears. Proceed a little further away from the base and thin another 10% of the hair away.

Proceed out on the strands of hair another half inch, thinning another 10%. Keep doing this until at the very ends of the hair there’s very little hair left.

The idea is to make sure there is NO DISTINCT LINE where the hair from the hair system starts. It should be totally feathered in. If this is done correctly, different colour blends will look very natural. Using this gradual blending technique, the result is a fantastic natural looking head of hair.

The tool for this is old-fashioned thinning shears. Only thinning shears that have the teeth of a comb are suitable.

The top and front of the hair system is exactly like cutting the top and front of natural growing hair.

It is best and we strongly recommend that the hair system be cut in two stages. The first time, leave the hair slightly longer than the desired end result. Give the hair time to settle then blend to the finished style.

Summary:

  1. Leave it very long
  2. Thin a little near the base
  3. Thin more as you go away from the base
  4. Thin a lot near the ends
  5. Thin it almost totally away at the ends
  6. Have no distinct edge where the hair system starts
  7. Cut and style the top and front like a natural head of hair
  8. Do it in two stages
